SUGAR…
I have a love-hate relationship with sugar. I mean, I love chocolate…really love it. Cookies, and brownies, and cakes are my weakness. But I also hate sugar for the way it makes me feel. It’s so addictive! And I can’t stand the sugar crashes after the spikes. It’s always been a crazy cycle for me: cutting back on sugar so I can feel better and then giving in to temptation and going overboard. After starting a Keto diet, I began really researching the effects of carbs, and therefore sugar, on the human body. It is a common misconception that the culprit of our health issues is fat, or even salt. The issue is sugar! It is amazing what happens to your body and mind when you eliminate sugar from your diet.
I can not even begin to tell you how much better I feel now that my diet doesn’t contain sugar. I do follow a modified Ketogenic diet, but I am not super strict. I am still nursing my baby, so I make sure that she gets what she needs, first and foremost. But I do say that I am very low carb, no sugar, and high in healthy fats. My baby just turned a year old and I am down over 70 pounds in that year! I am at high school weight, which is unbelievable to me. After having 7 children, I never dreamed I would get back to my high school weight. It was honestly never even my goal. I just wanted my health back. I wanted to get rid of the constant brain fog and have energy to get through my busy days.
I’m thrilled to say that I feel great! I just turned 36 and I honestly feel better than I have in many years. Although I still love my coffee, and will forever love it, I don’t drink coffee for the caffeine. I drink coffee to enjoy the taste and have that cozy ritual. I have mental focus and less mood swings. I have energy to keep up with my kids all day, and I sleep better at night. And yes, a lot of that has to do with following a Ketogenic diet and losing my baby weight, but let’s be realistic….an integral part of a Keto diet is eliminating sugar!
Many women ask me how I have manged to lose my baby weight, especially after having so many kids! Sometimes I help them start a Keto diet, or show them some exercises they can start with, or how to track their water intake. But really, the easiest (and hardest!) thing to do if you want to get your health on track is to eliminate sugar from your diet!
I WANT TO HELP YOU!
The holiday season is here, in full force. This is the hardest time of year to avoid sugar- it’s everywhere! But, if you want to do it, I am willing to help you. We can do this together.
We are going to start eliminating sugar from our diets and start this next year off right! Because I am not that crazy, we will start right after Christmas. This DOES NOT mean you can go crazy for Christmas- practice some restraint! Eating everything is sight will not exactly give you the motivation you need to get back on track when the holiday is over.
How Will This Sugar Challenge Work?
We are going to work on eliminating sugar from our diets together, over the course of 7 days. Yes, a habit takes longer than 7 days to develop, but you will learn tips and get a good jumpstart during these 7 days, so you can continue on after the week is over. I want to provide the tools and education and encouragement for you, so you feel equipped to keep going long after, and make this your new lifestyle!
~ This challenge will take place in a private Facebook group, which you will have access to immediately after signing up.
~ I will provide education, tools, and tips for you each day of the challenge. I will also be there to keep you on track and motivated to keep going!
~ I will also give you recipes for some of those treats you may be missing, but with healthier alternatives. I have a great chocolate chip cookie recipe, that is kid approved!
~ You are more than welcome to share in the group as well – any helpful information you find, a recipe you think would work, you can ask questions, post how you are feeling….anything!
~ Please share this post or personally invite some friends to join you in this challenge! It is so much easier with other friends who will keep you accountable in ways that we can’t. If you invite someone you know in “real life,” that is even better!
When Do We Start?
The day after Christmas! Yikes! Yes, really. This will take us until January 2nd, which means you will start the New Year feeling healthy and motivated!
Do I Need Anything To Start?
Nope! It would be helpful for you to clean out your kitchen and pantry of sugar, of course, but I know it is a busy time of year.
I Am Reading This After The Challenge Start Date…Can I Join?
Of course! I will keep the group open for anyone who wants to join in. The group is set up in a way that allows you to follow each day in order, so you can jump in at any point of the year. I will always be there to help you through it and answer any questions, at any point. So please, don’t hesitate to join just because you missed the start date!
Ok, I’m Ready!
Exciting! I can’t wait to see how you feel when we are done with the challenge! Go ahead and sign up below. You will immediately see a link to the private Facebook group. Request to join that, and I will verify your email address for approval. Remember, we don’t start until after Christmas, but I will add you in even before we start. I’m so excited for you!

December 21, 2018 at 1:38 pmI have already started this challenge, yes even before Christmas. I started over a week ago. And then it hit me, I have slept 8 hours for three nights in a row. I never do that! It’s always 5-6 hours. Then I had a mishap last night. I was given a yummy treat as a gift. I caved. I had the sweet treat and guess what? I barely slept last night. There is truth to what you are writing about. I’m learning! 🙂 Thank you for your encouraging post!
