Planning Out Your Homeschool Curriculum

Planning our curriculum…. the phrase gets us homeschool moms all excited, doesn’t it?

I don’t know about you, but I seriously love all things planning. I plan and then I plan again, and then I switch things around so I can plan some more. Just kidding!

But really, summer is already here, and as a homeschooling mom, this means I need to start planning for our upcoming school year. I find the best time to plan the new school year is in late spring/early summer. The year we just completed is still fresh in my mind and I know what I need to focus on in the upcoming year. Many curriculum companies have their sales in late spring as well, so it is a good time to keep an eye out on that.

I also find that I can relax a bit more during those early summer months, and know that my upcoming school year is planned out.

One of the most important aspects of homeschool planning is planning out our curriculum for the upcoming school year.

How I Use My Curriculum Planning Page

I use this Curriculum planning sheet to plan out my intended curriculum for each child. I have another page where I keep track of what we are actually using each year.

I write down the subject the curriculum will teach, the name of it, where I need to purchase it, the expected cost, and then I mark when I have it in hand.

This helps me organize my thoughts when I start to plan out our next school year. I don’t have to go looking in emails or catalogs, I have a running list of everything I need and where to find it. I even write down the curriculum that I already have from an older child, and where it is located in the house, just so my brain can be free of that too.

I usually only use one sheet for planning purposes, and put all my curriculum for each child on one sheet. However, if you prefer, you can print and use one sheet per child.

This will be our 5th year homeschooling, and I still haven’t created a system for keeping track of what we have and what we need to buy. I’ll definitely be using this printable and idea this summer! Thank you!

Even though my daughter is only two right now, homeschooling is something we’re discussing (my husband and I, not my toddler and I – lol). I’m already gathering resources and info so this is helpful!

I wait for the Rainbow Resources catalog like my kids wait for Christmas, ha, ha! I love planning, too, and I especially love to do all my planning with that catalog in front of me to give me great ideas.

Ahh I really want to homeschool this year but I have such a hard time staying on top of it now with a 6 month old. How do you do it with a little one? Your printable planner looks awesome!

Saving this for the future! My oldest is just turning four so we won’t be needing a ton of curriculum this fall but I know those days are coming!!
