The Best Homeschool Math While Roadschooling

Homeschooling can be a wild ride all on it’s own, can’t it? There are so many hills and valleys and each day looks different from the next. Once we think we have a hold on our routine, something comes along and shakes us up again. That is what happened to my family over this last year. I had everything all planned out and things were rolling along, as seamlessly as possible. And then, we found ourselves roadschooling!

If you have given any thought to roadschooling, you’ve likely wondered how you would transport all your homeschool curriculum. We definitely changed up our curriculum this year, to accommodate for the smaller space. I shared all our curriculum choices for each grade level on my YouTube channel, so be sure to check those out if you are looking for curriculum that saves you money and space.

You may be surprised, but math was the simplest subject to switch. Not only did I find a math program we could take on the road, but we found the math program that my children will use until they graduate.

The Best Homeschool Math While Roadschooling

The timing couldn’t have been better.

Teaching Textbooks came out with their newest version just when I was looking for a roadschool friendly math option. I had wanted to try Teaching Textbooks with my children for years, but the cost and the cumbersome nature kept preventing me.

Enter Teaching Textbooks 3.0

This brand new version of Teaching Textbooks is a dream, for so many reasons! For starters, it is all online! There is no physical textbook, no CD’s you need to keep track of, no workbooks…everything is online. You student simply logs into his or her own account, and everything they need is readily available, and organized for them. They just go right down the lessons!

Simple For the Teacher

Teaching Textbooks 3.0 takes so much work off the teacher. Grades are kept right online, and the teacher can see exactly which problems the student missed and how many they got correct. The teacher also has the option of going into the gradebook and resetting any problems they want the student to re-do. This is helpful when your student needs some extra practice or you want to boost their grade a bit.

No Physical Books

Since there isn’t a physical textbook or any workbooks, this makes Teaching Textbooks 3.0 a perfect option for those that are roadschooling or those who travel frequently. All you need is the internet!

Each student does have access to an online version of the textbook, so they can easily look up a lesson when they need to. For example, when one of my children was struggling with multiplying fractions, the lesson told her that she first learned the concept in lesson number 46. She was able to quickly pull up the textbook to lesson number 46 and review that entire lesson.

Engaging for the Student

My children now say that math is their favorite subject! What?! Even my oldest child, who has fought me on math for the last eight years, now doesn’t balk in the least when it is time for him to do math each day. After struggling with me for eight years!

Instead of me teaching them math, they now have an online teacher. If they choose to, they can also have an online “Buddy,” who is this little character that will help them with hints if they need it. Some of my children use their Buddies and some choose not to. They can also choose different backgrounds, which just makes it more personal for them.

We definitely need another laptop, because my kids do fight over who is going to do their math lesson next! That may be something to consider if you have multiple children!

Large Family Discount

This may be one of my favorite things about the new Teaching Textbooks 3.0…the large family discount! I have 7 children and currently, 4 of them are using Teaching Textbooks. Depending on their math ability, I could have 5 to 6 children using Teaching Textbooks in the same year. The large family discount is a huge blessing! The discount is designed for a family of 4-8 students. You will pay $199.08 for the year and have access to one level per student. Knowing that our homeschool math will only cost $200 a year, no matter how many students I need to add, is such a relief for me.

Teaching Textbooks Placement Test

Teaching Textbooks is not set to grade levels, so I highly encourage you to have your students take the placement test. Teaching Textbooks starts at level 3 and goes through high school math. My second grader, who is more math brained, started at level 3 and has breezed right through it. However, my next child likely won’t start Teaching Textbooks until she is in third grade.

Want to Try Teaching Textbooks 3.0 For Free?!

Teaching Textbook offers the first 15 lessons of every level for you to try for free! There is no time limit and no limit on the number of students. I would suggest having your student first take the placement test and then try out the first 15 lesson of the level they tested into. You can see more info on the free trial on their FAQ page and then sign up for the free trial right here.

HOW ABOUT A GIVEAWAY?!!

Teaching Textbooks has graciously offered to give away a year long family membership to one of my readers! The giveaway closes April 27th and winner will be announced in this post and via email!

I homeschooled my kids for preschool and pre-k, but they are in a traditional school currently. I am always intrigued by families that take a year and travel the country. Technology makes it so easy to bring everything with you. I will definitely save this post, if we ever did decide to travel, I would be very interested in this math program.

I have looked into Teaching Textbooks and really like their setup! Right now, both my kiddos are settled into other math programs and doing well, so I don’t want to switch them around if I don’t have to. But TT is on my list…sometimes when they get to a new development level, I do need to switch things up. And I know my middle son will really enjoy TT if he needs to step away from what he’s currently using.

I love the family discount! What a smart idea. Right now I use programs that need to be purchased for each child individually. This is much better.
